Orlistat, Xenical & alli diet pills, what relation?

Orlistat (Alli and Xenical diet pills), also known as tetrahydrolipstatin, is a white to off-white crystalline powder. Orlistat is practically insoluble in water, freely soluble in chloroform, and very soluble in methanol and ethanol. Orlistat has no pKa within the physiological pH range.

Orlistat(Alli and Xenical diet pills) is a drug designed to treat obesity. Orlistat is marketed by Roche under the trade name Xenical, and as an over-the-counter under the name alli by GlaxoSmithKline.

Orlistat (Alli and Xenical diet pills) is primarily used to prevent the absorption of fats from the human diet, hence reducing caloric intake and should be used in combination with a physician-supervised reduced-calorie diet.

How alli / Xenical works

Alli and Xenical diet pills are a reversible inhibitor of lipases. It exerts its therapeutic activity in the lumen of the stomach and small intestine by forming a covalent bond with the active serine residue site of gastric and pancreatic lipases. The inactivated enzymes are thus unavailable to
hydrolyze dietary fat in the form of triglycerides into absorbable free fatty acids and monoglycerides. As undigested triglycerides are not absorbed, the resulting caloric deficit may have a positive effect on weight control. Systemic absorption of the drug is therefore not needed for activity. At the recommended therapeutic dose of 120 mg three times a day, Orlistat(Alli and Xenical diet pills) inhibits dietary fat absorption by approximately 30%.

In other words: Orlistat (Alli and Xenical diet pills) inhibits the absorption of about 30% of dietary fat using the recommended dosage of 120 mg three times a day, the fat which is not absorbed by the body is excreted undigested.
Note: At the standard prescription dose of 120 mg three times daily before meals, Orlistat (Alli and Xenical diet pills) prevents approximately 30% of dietary fat from being absorbed. Higher doses do not produce more potent effects.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Follow the diet program your doctor has given you. You should evenly divide the amount of daily fat, carbohydrates, and protein you eat over three main meals. If orlistat is taken with a diet high in fat (a diet with more than 30% of the total daily calories from fat), or with one meal very high in fat, it is more likely you will experience side effects from the medication.
Orlistat (Alli and Xenical diet pills) blocks your body's absorption of some fat-soluble vitamins and beta carotene. Therefore, when you use orlistat you should take a daily multivitamin that contains vitamins A, D, E, K, and beta-carotene. Read the label to find a multivitamin product that contains these vitamins. Take the multivitamin once a day, 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking orlistat, or take the multivitamin at bedtime. Ask your doctor or pharmacist any questions you might have about taking a multivitamin while you are taking orlistat.
While you are taking orlistat, you should avoid foods that have more than 30% fat. Read the labels on all the foods you buy. When eating meat, poultry (chicken) or fish, eat only 2 or 3 ounces (55 or 85 grams) (about the size of a deck of cards) for a serving. Choose lean cuts of meat and remove the skin from poultry. Fill up your meal plate with more grains, fruits, and vegetables. Replace whole-milk products with nonfat or 1% milk and reduced- or low-fat dairy items. Cook with less fat. Use vegetable oil spray when cooking. Salad dressings; many baked items; and prepackaged, processed, and fast foods are usually high in fat. Use the low- or nonfat versions of these foods and/or cut back on serving sizes. When dining out, ask how foods are prepared and request that they be prepared with little or no added fat.

Orlistat (alli & Xenical) side effects

The primary side effects of Orlistat (alli & Xenical) are gastrointestinal-related. Side effects are most severe when beginning therapy, and decrease in frequency with time; in clinical trials, nearly half of side effects lasted less than a week, but some may persist for over six months. Because orlistat's main effect is to prevent dietary fat from being absorbed, the fat is excreted unchanged in the feces and so the stool may become oily or loose (steatorrhea). Increased flatulence is also common. Bowel movements may become frequent or urgent, and rare occurrences of fecal incontinence have been seen in clinical trials. To minimize these effects, foods with high fat content should be avoided; the manufacturer advises consumers to follow a low-fat, reduced-calorie diet. Oily stools and flatulence can be controlled by reducing the dietary fat content to somewhere in the region of 15 grams per meal.

Here are some possible side effects of Xenical? (This is NOT a complete list of side effects reported with Xenical. Your health care provider can discuss with you a more complete list of side effects.)
  • Oily spotting
  • Gas with discharge
  • Urgent need to have a bowel movement
  • Oily or fatty stools
  • Oily discharge
  • Increased number of bowel movements
  • Inability to control bowel movements
  • oily spotting on underwear or on clothing
  • gas with oily spotting
  • urgent need to have a bowel movement
  • loose stools
  • oily or fatty stools
  • difficulty controlling bowel movements
  • pain or discomfort in the rectum (bottom)
  • stomach pain
  • irregular menstrual periods
  • headache
  • anxiety
Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
  • hives
  • rash
  • itching
  • difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • severe or continuous abdominal pain

Xenical Description: Color, Capsules & ingredients

XENICAL is available for oral administration in dark-blue, hard-gelatin capsules, with
light-blue imprinting. Each capsule contains 120 mg of the active ingredient, orlistat. The capsules also contain the inactive ingredients microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch glycolate, sodium lauryl sulfate, povidone, and talc. Each capsule shell contains gelatin, titanium dioxide, and FD&C Blue No.1, with printing of pharmaceutical glaze NF, titanium dioxide, and FD&C Blue No.1 aluminum lake.

Xenical Indication and Usage

Xenical is indicated for obesity management including weight loss and weight maintenance when used in conjunction with a reduced-calorie diet. XENICAL is also indicated to reduce the risk for weight regain after prior weight loss. XENICAL is indicated for obese patients with an initial body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m2 or ≥27 kg/m2 in the presence of other risk factors (eg, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia).

What NOT to take with Orlistat (alli & Xenical)

Absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and other fat-soluble nutrients is inhibited by the use of orlistat. A multivitamin tablet containing vitamins A, D, E, K, and beta-carotene should be taken once a day, at least 2 hours before or after taking the drug.

Orlistat may reduce plasma levels of cyclosporin, an immunosuppressive drug frequently used to prevent transplant rejection; the two drugs should therefore not be administered concomitantly.

General Precautions with Orlistat (alli & Xenical)

  • Your daily intake of fat should be evenly divided over 3 main meals.
  • Xenical can decrease the absorption some fat-soluble vitamins and beta-carotene. Therefore when being treated with Xenical, take a multivitamin supplement that contains vitamins D, E, K, and beta-carotene. Take your multivitamin once a day at least 2 hours before or after taking Xenical, such as bedtime.
  • Review all medications that you are taking with your health care provider, including those that you take without a prescription. If you are taking cyclosporine you may have to be monitored more closely.
  • If you are diabetic, Xenical may affect your blood sugar control. See your doctor regularly for monitoring and treatment adjustments.
Pediatric Use: The safety and efficacy of Xenical have been evaluated in obese adolescent patients aged 12 to 16 years. However, the safety and efficacy of Xenical has not been studied in pediatric patients below the age of 12 years.

Orlistat (alli & Xenical) Contraindications

You cannot take Orlistat if you:
  • have problems absorbing food
  • have reduced gallbladder function (e.g. after cholecystectomy)
  • are pregnant, or breast-feeding a child. It is not known if orlistat is secreted in human milk. Therefore, orlistat (alli & Xenical) should not be taken by nursing women.
People with certain kidney problems may not be able to take Orlistat.

What other information should I know?

  • Keep all appointments with your doctor.
  • You should also follow a program of regular physical activity or exercise while you are taking orlistat. However, before you start any new activity or exercise program, talk with your doctor or health care professional.
  • Do not let anyone else take your prescription medication. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your prescription.
  • It is important for you to keep a written list of all of the prescription and nonprescription (over-the-counter) medicines you are taking, as well as any products such as vitamins, minerals, or other dietary supplements. You should bring this list with you each time you visit a doctor or if you are admitted to a hospital. It is also important information to carry with you in case of emergencies.

Orlistat Xenical Drug Interactions

Alcohol
In a multiple-dose study in 30 normal-weight subjects, coadministration of Xenical
and 40 grams of alcohol (eg, approximately 3 glasses of wine) did not result in alteration
of alcohol pharmacokinetics, orlistat pharmacodynamics (fecal fat excretion), or systemic
exposure to orlistat.

Cyclosporine
Preliminary data from a Xenical and cyclosporine drug interaction study indicate a
reduction in cyclosporine plasma levels when Xenical was coadministered with
cyclosporine.

Digoxin
In 12 normal-weight subjects receiving Xenical 120 mg three times a day for 6 days, Xenical did not alter the pharmacokinetics of a single dose of digoxin.

Fat-soluble Vitamin Supplements and Analogues
A pharmacokinetic interaction study showed a 30% reduction in beta-carotene supplement absorption when concomitantly administered with Xenical. Xenical inhibited absorption of a vitamin E acetate supplement by approximately 60%. The effect of orlistat on the absorption of supplemental vitamin D, vitamin A, and nutritionallyderived vitamin K is not known at this time.

Glyburide
In 12 normal-weight subjects receiving orlistat 80 mg three times a day for 5 days, orlistat did not alter the pharmacokinetics or pharmacodynamics (blood glucoselowering) of glyburide.

Nifedipine (extended-release tablets)
In 17 normal-weight subjects receiving Xenical 120 mg three times a day for 6 days,
Xenical did not alter the bioavailability of nifedipine (extended-release tablets).

Oral Contraceptives
In 20 normal-weight female subjects, the treatment of Xenical 120 mg three times a
day for 23 days resulted in no changes in the ovulation-suppressing action of oral
contraceptives.

Phenytoin
In 12 normal-weight subjects receiving Xenical 120 mg three times a day for 7 days, Xenical did not alter the pharmacokinetics of a single 300-mg dose of phenytoin.

Pravastatin
In a 2-way crossover study of 24 normal-weight, mildly hypercholesterolemic patients receiving Xenical 120 mg three times a day for 6 days, Xenical did not affect the pharmacokinetics of pravastatin.

Warfarin
In 12 normal-weight subjects, administration of Xenical 120 mg three times a day for 16 days did not result in any change in either warfarin pharmacokinetics (both R- and Senantiomers)
or pharmacodynamics (prothrombin time and serum Factor VII). Although undercarboxylated osteocalcin, a marker of vitamin K nutritional status, was unaltered with Xenical administration, vitamin K levels tended to decline in subjects taking Xenical. Therefore, as vitamin K absorption may be decreased with Xenical, patients on chronic stable doses of warfarin who are prescribed Xenical should be monitored closely for changes in coagulation parameters.

Xenical & Special Populations

Because the drug is minimally absorbed, studies in special populations (geriatric, different races, patients with renal and hepatic insufficiency) were not conducted.

Xenical Short-term Studies

Adults
In several studies of up to 6-weeks duration, the effects of therapeutic doses of Xenical on gastrointestinal and systemic physiological processes were assessed in normal-weight and obese subjects. Postprandial cholecystokinin plasma concentrations were lowered after multiple doses of XENICAL in two studies but not significantly different from placebo in two other experiments. There were no clinically significant changes observed in gallbladder motility, bile composition or lithogenicity, or colonic cell proliferation rate, and no clinically significant reduction of gastric emptying time or gastric acidity. In addition, no effects on plasma triglyceride levels or systemic lipases were observed with the administration of Xenical in these studies. In a 3-week study of 28 healthy male volunteers, Xenical (120 mg three times a day) did not significantly affect the balance of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, copper, and
iron.
Pediatrics
In a 3-week study of 32 obese adolescents aged 12 to 16 years, Xenical (120 mg three times a day) did not significantly affect the balance of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, or copper. The iron balance was decreased by 64.7 μmole/24 hours and 40.4 μmole/24 hours in orlistat and placebo treatment groups, respectively.

Orlistat (Alli and Xenical diet pills) availability

In most areas, such as the United Kingdom, France, and Canada, orlistat is available by prescription only. In Australia and the United States, certain formulations of orlistat have been approved for sale without a prescription.
United States
On January 23, 2006, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory panel voted 11 to 3 to recommend the approval of an OTC formulation of orlistat, to be marketed under the name alli by GlaxoSmithKline. Approval was granted on February 7, 2007,and alli became the first weight loss drug officially sanctioned by the U.S. government for over-the-counter use. Consumer advocacy organization Public Citizen, through its Health Research Group, opposed over-the-counter approval for orlistat, calling it "the height of recklessness" and "a dangerous mistake" due to questionable benefits and possible adverse effects.
(Becoming available in the U.S. during the summer of 2007, alli will be sold as 60 mg capsules — half the dosage of prescription orlistat.)
As of 2007, no generic formulations of orlistat are legally available in the United States. U.S. patent protection for Xenical, originally to end on June 18, 2004, was extended by five years (until 2009) by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The extension was granted on July 20, 2002.
Australia
In Australia, orlistat is currently available over-the-counter in 120 mg size (84 capsules to the pack). Initially available only with a prescription, it was reclassified as a "Pharmacist Only Medicine" in October 2003. In late 2006, the Australian Consumers' Association complained that Roche was inappropriately advertising the drug to teenagers, and Roche was forced to withdraw its ads. The Association filed further complaints with the Therapeutic Goods Administration — TGA, Australia's regulatory authority for healthcare products — and the TGA's Scheduling Committee agreed to convene on February 20, 2007, to discuss possible revoking of orlistat's over-the-counter status. The Committee ultimately decided to keep orlistat as a Schedule 3 drug, but withdrew its authorization of direct-to-consumer Xenical advertising, stating this "increased pressure on pharmacists to provide orlistat to consumers...this in turn had the potential to result in inappropriate patterns of use".

Some claims!

Despite claims that (Alli and Xenical diet pills) increases the risk of breast cancer amongst clinical trial participants, there is evidence to suggest that the introduction of specific varied preparations containing orlistat, namely the concurrent administration of orlistat and the monoclonal antibody trastuzumab, can actually induce cell death in tumor cells and block their growth.
A 2006 animal study addressed a connection orlistat (alli & Xenical) shares with aberrant crypt foci (ACF), lesions found in the colon which are believed to be one of the earliest precursors of colon cancer.

This product has so far been amazing. To actually see the fat leaving your system. But im curious, is my sudden tiredness and lethargy connected to the use of my new pill?

alli, i luv u. but a friendly advice: remember to take some spray with you when using public bathroom :)

9 days on Alli up to now, and I already lost some 6lbs so fare. I believe the Alli side effect too many people are talking about is true which happens only if you take too much fat while using Alli. It happens to me too(!). What I do more (following good advices!) is exercising each day. Alli, Here I come successful!

alli won't help you if you eat a lot of carbohydrates, like sugars in chocolate. It's only really helpful if your downfall is fat. good luck!

I'm on Alli too, to tell the truth, I feel going nowhere. maybe must be more patient with Alli..or maybe just try something else if any!. good luck all of you with Alli ;)

what is the strength of Xenical?

Anonymous said...

Xenical is the Roche brand name of the active ingredient Orlistat as mentioned in the review above. Xenical strength is 120mg in capsule dosage form. Xenical is only available as prescription drug. Xenical was approved by the FDA on April 23, 1999.

Hi,
I've been on alli some three weeks. Now I can fit into my size 18s.

Anonymous said...

I have been taking the prescription form of Alli called Xenical, once those prescriptions are done. I plan using Alli too. The thing I hate most about Alli side effects is the oily spotting thing. That's really nasty. Good Luck folks!

Anonymous said...

While using alli, keep in mind: use low fat food with alli.
...hoping alli will be available soon in Canada too.

I've been thinking about giving alli a go but was kinda skeptical because of the warnings and nasty alli side effects talks here and there. now that there are some satisfied persons out there using alli ensures me and pushes me towards using it. sure I'll do. thanks for sharing :)

by the way, how does Xenical or Orlistat work?

Anonymous said...

Ok, as said above, Orlistat is the generic name, the Orlistat drug marketed by Roche is called Xenical.

"Xenical (orlistat) is a lipase inhibitor for obesity management that acts by inhibiting the absorption of dietary fats", in plain English it claims: Xenical (orlistat) makes your body not absorb the fat contained in what you eat, hence weight loss or at least, less weight gain.

Anonymous said...

To avoid confusion, please not that not all the fat taken in your dietary fat is inhibited being absorbed by our body, it's only about 30% thereof following the recommend or standard prescription dose of 120 mg, 3 times per day.
The Orlistat (xenical and alli) review above mentioned that:
"At the standard prescription dose of 120 mg three times daily before meals, Orlistat (alli & Xenical) prevents approximately 30% of dietary fat from being absorbed. Higher doses do not produce more potent effects."

Help please, can i use xenical for my kid? 10 years old?

Anonymous said...

No.
Roche, the manufacturer of orlistat Xenical, has clearly stated that Xenical has NOT been studied in pediatric patients below the age of 12 years

Anyway, you have to consult your kids' pediatric adviser or doctor even if your kid is older than 12 years old.

Hi, my aunt is thinking about thaking this drug but she is worried about her metabolism being slow after she stops taking the pills. Will she lose weight only to gain it all back again and maybe even more?

Anonymous said...

with any diet pill, you run the risk to regain the lost weight during dieting. Weight loss pills (alli, xenical, duromine, phentermine, hoodia..and any other pill) are merely there to help losing weight within a more complete program that may include physical activities, food quality intake, lifestyle in general. so alli or xenical alone may help you losing weight but there is no guaranty you'll keep that weight off for long once you stop taking it, anyway you can't take a diet pill for ever.
My experience towards a more successful weight loss for the long run is lifestyle improvement: eat healthier, be physically more active and last but not least, believe in yourself.
good luck everyone

Is alli as effective as Xenical? I have used Xenical in the past but didn't like some of Xenical side effects. Such as: letting out gas and oily stuff leaking out into your pants. Does alli have the same effects as Xenical? Should I give alli a try, I am still trying to lose weight?

thanks

Anonymous said...

Orlistat side effects reviewed above are generally identical for both alli and Xenical.
Personally, the most noticeable alli side effect I hate is that it may cause gas with oily discharge and uncontrollable diarrhea. IMO, if someone had an accident, they wouldn't want to tell anyone about it. It's somehow embarrassing!

Anonymous said...

Any suggestions on how to keep from having the oily discharge. I want to take this but can't be running to the bathroom all the time during work

Anonymous said...

Ach! you can always try and lose weight the good old fashioned way - A healthy diet of organic veggies, salad and "pure" food, exercise, smaller portions, commitment avoiding those DRUGS and TOXIC CHEMICALS. I think most people with overweight are just too lazy to do just that. They would rather have a quick fix pill such as alli or xenical and will put up with the "side effects" that endangers their health integrity.

Anonymous said...

Yes I take alli, and no I have not sh*t my pants..Here's the deal....if you are taking Alli and eating a low fat diet, you're gonna be ok. If you take an Alli and eat something high in fat, you might poop you're pants. If you don't want greasy stuff coming out of your butt, don't put greasy stuff in your mouth, it's that simple. Alli diet pill is a weight loss drug, not a magic freakin' pill! less fat keeps your underpants clean :p

I used Xenical for about 3 weeks and it was the worst 3 weeks of my life. Even got diarrhea from JUST OATMEAL - no butter, pure plain oatmeal. Xenical gave me instant irratable bowel syndrome. I would recommend it to my worst enemy lol Xenical nothanks

i'm on alli diet pill, i just have my low fat 3 meals and snack on fruit ,did find it hard and fell off track a few times but thats ok ,as long as you stay committed and get back on track and don't give up ! i had 2 go see the doctor after 4 weeks taking xenical and to be honest i didn't think i've lost much, though my jeans needed pulling up every 5 seconds lol cut a long story short , i lost 9lb in them 4 weeks even though i had the odd kebab here and there

I have a long history with diet trials, I was weighing size 20 within 2 1/2 months, today and I'm proud to say it; I am in a size 14!!!! I have had negative thoughts about Alli. Frankly I had to do my part as well knowing how to eat and what to eat, although, should I have a craving I eat a very small portion to satisfy me that's it! thanks alli

My Dr. prescribed the Xenical, however my insurance wouldn't cover it. The out of pocket was $291 for 90 pills of 120mg each. After reading over the Alli material, I realized the Xenical and the Alli are identical (both are Orlistat), however Alli is 60mg per pill (half of Xenical). The Alli for 90 pills is $53. My thoughts are get the Alli, and double the dosage to get the same mgs as the Xenical my doc prescribed. For $106, with Alli, I am getting 180 pills each of 60mg, but by doubling dosage, will have the same mgs, for less money. Does anyone have any info that might persuade my theory differently? Orlistat is orlistat, right? The name and dosage is the only difference right? Thanks, Angela

I've been taking alli for a long period. My doctor prescribed it to me because I gained much weight as a result of smoking quit. I lost 55 pounds, in addition to using Orlistat alli, I've been watching my dieting habits vigorously and exercising regularly at the gym on the treadmill for 35 minutes.
Ok! Oily discharge! as a result of using alli? right ;) but only when I ate fatty meals such as : fried chicken and fried food and any kind of red meat as all of them have fat content. Here we go: my advice is that when you feel like you need to fart, oh don't!. why? because you can't be sure of what will come out. So try and keep it in until you get a toilet, you never know. Rule of thumb for me is if calories from fat are high, I take a pill with the meal. This product is a lifesaver but only works if accompanied with improving eating habits and exercise.

Hi,
I don't know yet whether Alli will make me reach my ongoing weight loss goal. I have been on Alli for past 10 days, but I have not (yet) experienced any of the famous horror Alli effects widely discussed (oily things and so on..).
Occasionally some orange oil in my stool - which (delightfully :) lets me know I ate something with fat that wasn't absorbed and getting it out as-is.
I had already started exercising (Curves), and watching my diet, and was beginning to see progress although in slow steps.
I think those bad Alli side effects are only true if you are still going to eat pizza, French fries, and fast food and such, otherwise Alli side effects are minimal

Anonymous said...

i've weighed myself once a week but have somehow gained 4 pounds even though I'm eating less and exercising daily. i don't get it? it seems alli doesn't help me at all.

Anonymous said...

I've lost 15 pounds since starting Alli, some five weeks ago. Hard but I'm getting in the good habit of paying close attention to food-labels! This way I got surprised of how much fat is hidden in our daily diets, even if you prepare your meals your own way.
Now, I don't only watch the portion size I eat but more importantly get to know how much fat it contains. luckily, I'm eating more vegetables, fish and lean meats , while staying away from gravies, desserts and prepared and fast/junk foods, hence I have up to now no severe treatment effects because of taking Alli.
I know Alli severe treatment effects are a concern pushing so many people not to dare using this diet pill but for me it was just perfect, my advice is to consume less fat while on Alli, and of course move it a bit!

Anonymous said...

One important lesson learned from taking alli is watching what you eat. Of course you don't have to count calories one by one, but zooming out to watching the kind of food you're eating while on alli.
Indeed, it pushes you to be conscious about what you eat, that is if you want to have any success with alli. In my own experience, taking alli is a good thing, especially when adding a regular exercise program, which could include just a brisk walk after dinner.

Anonymous said...

For me, Alli was not a big story, I had some bad side effects, namely passing blood in my stool, I don't know the reason. Horrified I just stopped taking Alli, a day later the blood stopped too. I read here so many people having positive experience with it, but I think Alli is not me, at least for the time being till I see my doctor!

A golden rule I read it in an article:
"You have to eat a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet and be willing to do the work. If you do, you can lose 50 percent more weight. If you lose 10 pounds without taking alli, you could lose 15 when taking it."

There were some scientific discussions about Orlistat health risks:
Dr. Sidney M. Wolfe, director of Public Citizen's Health Research Group in Washington, D.C said: "Animal studies done by Roche show that rats developed aberrant crypti foci, ACF, precancerous lesions in the colon from Orlistat, which put them at higher risk of colon cancer," Wolfe said in a recent interview. "An independent study by researchers in 2006 found the same thing."

But another expert said Wolfe's concerns are unfounded:
"There are more than 100 clinical studies, including 30,000 clinical trial patients, and nine years of post-marketing surveillance with more than 29 million patient treatments, all showing no such risk with orlistat use," said Dr. Vidhu Bansal, director of medical affairs for GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare. "The FDA concluded the same in their recent review," she added.

is alli just an over-hyped diet pill almost made magical Or alli, at least, DOES what it says !?

Anonymous said...

This is among the most complete Alli and Xenical reviews online, nice job. ..ah and I like those photos too. thanks :)

Anonymous said...

I bought Alli the same day it came out. Before using it, and as Alli manufacturer pretty good stated in their advertisements, I was well aware it is not a "magic pill". I got on Alli for a week before having to quit using it altogether. Even though I was especially careful of what I ate, it still left me with very loose, pungent stools. Alli, for me, was not worth it. So back to losing weight by more adequately dieting and exercising more.

Anonymous said...

Alli highly publicized "treatment effects" are in fact its greatest asset. Well if you can use the fear of soiling your pants as your powerful motivator!

Now, Let's do some math about Alli pill:

Alli makes 25% of the fat you consume with your three daily pills indigestible. It also requires that you eat no more than 15 grams of fat at these meals if you want to avoid the "treatment effects". Therefore, Alli eliminates 25% of 45 grams of fat a day (assuming you eat the max), which is 11.25 grams. As there are 9 calories per gram of fat, Alli eliminates 100 calories a day from your diet. In other words, Alli will knock a pound off you every 5 weeks. (hint: there are approximately 3500 calories in a pound of fat).

Interesting review! it is a review about orlistat, xenical and alli, but I read most comments here are about alli! c'mon, any experience about xenical?

Anonymous said...

Hi,
I've been on Xenical a bit more than a year. Meanwhile I have lost about 47lbs ( 21kg). But before taking it I had to change my lifestyle. Xenical works by inhibiting the lipase in your digestive system, that is about 30% of fat in your meal is not absorbed into your body and therefore goes straight through you. hence those loose stools, wind and oily spotting nasty side effects!

While on Xenical you should try and avoid these kind of foods:
- Eggs
- Mayonnaise
- Cream (including cream soups and sauces)
- Most bacon
- Most sausages
- All fast food
- Cheese
- Chicken cooked with the skin on
- Cakes, cookies and biscuits
- Any processed food with more than 5% fat unless you are eating it in very small amounts.

I would recommend using Xenical only with good medical advice, I think you will not be given the drug unless your BMI is over 30, or over 28 if you have a medical condition that you need to lose weight for.
By the way here are some Do's and Don'ts to succeed using Xenical:

- DO get medical advice from your doctor as Xenical is a prescription drug.
- DON'T take Xenical if you're sure that your meal has no fat at all because Xenical works on "stopping fat being totally digested by your body". Xenical is too expensive to be wasted this way!
- DO take Xenical after every meal even if it has only a low fat content.
- DO ensure that each meal has at most 12 grams of fat (15 grams is absolute maximum) if you want to avoid those side effects.
- DO take vitamin D, E, K & beta-carotene supplements. These are fat-soluble vitamins and their correct absorption by your body is effected by Xenical usage. So to complement any vitamin shortage while on
Xenical, do take them either more than an hour before taking Xenical tablet, or more than an hour after, or they will be effected by Xenical!
- DO expect slightly looser stools and a slight increase in wind even when you stick to the 12 grams fat per meal, although slight, yet noticeable at first.
- DON'T take Xenical more than an hour after a meal, because by the time Xenical reaches your system, it's too late as your body has already digested much of the fat.
- DON'T forget to take Xenical if you are eating out and you think you have had a fatty meal, you will have side effects, but it will still remove 30% of the fat from that fatty meal.
- DO pay more attention to your calorie intake. It is useless cutting the fat content off your meals just to substitute it with higher-sugar products and meals intake.
- DO enjoy big portions, just remember to keep the fat content low.
- DO eat healthy snacks between meals,( fruit, yoghurt, low calorie snacks,.. the eternal advice :) if you are hungry, but avoid junk-food snacks.

.... last but not least:
- DO try and exercise while on Xenical diet (generally on any other diet), this way, you will lose weight more quickly and more likely and importantly keep it off.

I hope these words about Xenical added something useful to this Orlistat Alli and Xenical review. All the best of luck!

yes your review adds some more information to this orlistat xenical alli review... but you know what i dont believe in any diet pill let alone ms alli..ooh those nasty xenical and alli side effects ..oops here is an other oily boily spot..

Anonymous said...

Personally I don't see Alli is that bad. Oily spots!! c'mon!!! look at all those benefits for overweight people who see Alli diet pill as a realistic and effective way to lose weight not just for appearance or self esteem reasons BUT mainly for serious health risks due their obesity and overweight. Don't just spot those possible side effects (as every drug must have side effects, we are error prone creature anyway!).
Alli diet pill has got some decent reviews worldwide and mainly in USA where it can be bought as an over-the-counter pill, but it is in no way a magic pill that so many people try to believe. Actually, it's barely an above average diet pill regardless of that hype created by its FDA approval. You should mention that being an FDA approved over-the-counter does in no way make Alli harmless or at least without side effects (mainly diarrhea and gas with an oily discharge.) if not used appropriately.
I personally appreciate Orlistat Alli ( and Xenical somehow in Europe) manufactures' open approach about these side effects.

i agree but alli price is still too high, I just looked at amazon:
Alli Weight-Loss Aid, Orlistat 60mg Capsules, 120-Count Refill Pack $54.99 (from $99.95), so the question is: could you else get more weight loss with the same amount of money-$54.99...hmm let me see..

I think the positive point is that alli manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline talks openly about those possible alli side effects, namely(some already mentioned above in this "Orlistat alli & Xenical Review"):

* gas with oily spotting
* loose stools
* more frequent stools that may be hard to control

GlaxoSmithKline states that it is a result of the way alli works. alli prevents the absorption of some of the fat you eat, the fat passes out of your body, so you may have bowel changes, known as alli treatment effects. In fact, you may recognize it as something that looks like the oil on top of a pizza. GlaxoSmithKline also said that excess fat passing out of your body is not harmful. To prevent it, try to limit fat intake in your meals to an average of 15 grams, because a low-fat diet lowers the chance of these bowel changes.

Anonymous said...

Nice words from GlaxoSmithKline but not realistic. alli still costs too much, you may just want to spent alli costs in healthier food and so avoiding begin obese in first place. Socially, alli side effects are embarrassing, just imagine being on this alli dieting style carrying a spare pair of underpants wherever you go!

Hi guys. I've been taking Alli for 8 days and have lost 7 pounds. I keep my fat intake at low levels when possible and have minimal side effects, for those of you that are worried about those. No problems so far, only good results!

Has anyone's physician prescribed concurrent use of both xenical and meridia?

Is there any diet menu given with alli for basically you need to do a low-fat diet.

I've been taking Alli for a month now with no side effects at all ... but I haven't eaten a meal with more than 15 grams of fat in it either! Since I am not particularly fond of "oily stools" and because I actually want to lose these last 20 pounds ... I FOLLOW DIRECTIONS! I lost 80 pounds first the good old fashioned way - diet and exercise. But I hit a wall with these last 20. Alli is helping! I've lost 7 pounds this month, so 13 to go. Do I think it's all the pill? Nope. But if I KNOW I will get the side effects if I have those french fries, I simply don't eat them. Maybe a pound or two is from the actual drug, but the other 5-6 is from avoiding the foods that cause side effects and keep you fat. Folks....please stop wishing for a magic pill. Losing 87 hasn't been easy, but I feel so much better about myself. Plus, shopping for size 8-10s is WAY better than shopping for size 20s! YOU CAN DO IT!
Some of my tricks? Make omelettes with 1 egg and 2 egg whites. Replace oil and eggs in brownies with canned pumpkin. Avoid butter and mayo on EVERYTHING. Make friends with your slow cooker ... there are AWESOME low-fat recipes that are reallly yummy! Start with walking and work your way up. I now run almost 3 miles a day and am hoping to work my way up to 5. It's a process and Alli can help, but you've got to do the work! If you need the extra push to avoid fattening foods, then I would suggest buying Alli ... there are some great deals on starter kits right now!

Just started taking the Alli pills today, along with a low cal, low fat diet. I'm wondering though... As amount of fat allowed in the diet, are the pills really necessary, or is it a gimick to make people pay more money? Guess I'll find out soon enough.

Why not try xenical!!
Xenical is excellent!!! i love it! and its not really diarrhea, its more like the fat your body was planing to store as cellulite. Besides, your supposed to eat it when you have greasy food, so your going to eat a pizza? take a xenical and you can be guilt free. xenical, disgrasil or orlistat. the are all the same and they are all my best friends! :D

that greasy poop and fart thing was only the first month but i ddint find it troubling because the maker disclosed it!

Buyer behavior shows us that people buy food based on priced without taking the time to realize that those foods will kill them.

People should be eating organic foods such as fruits and vegetables. As well as organic minimal processed foods. If you want to louse weight, you must eat clean and good foods , not starve yourself. If one starves themselves they will louse bone mass, muscle, cartilage but not fat.
Fat is like gold to the human body.

Studies have shown that with a low fat diet, exercise, $600 plus a year, users of Alli will lose, on average, 9 more pounds than those who do not use Alli. $75 dollars per additional lost pound may, with rising gas prices, be cheaper than going to the Red Cross and giving a pint of blood for weight loss. Add in the cost of Depends and it could be a coin toss.

Anonymous said...

I just finish the entire bottle a few days ago and since i did not do any extra diet or exercise with, I lost nothing
Hope it works for you, but you really have to diet along with it and I guess exercise more.

Anonymous said...

A friend of mine started taking these pills like two months ago and she's lost about 15 lbs. She says they work great and all but they do have that nasty side effect (you know what I'm talking about lol).

Anonymous said...

I have been through it all and know what's it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can't be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I've worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes.

Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight.

First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can't eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising...

This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it's good for the heart.

Good luck :)

I think Weight Watchers and Alli is an efficient combination. One of my friends did Weight Watchers last year and when we are trying to estimate fat grams in a meal we will look up the points since they are very similar. You do have to watch the fat grams closely though. I have stuck to less than 15 grams per meal for every meal except one meal this weekend that had 20 grams and I have had no side effects what so ever. I have been on the pill for 9 days. It really has not been that hard to follow at all! Being scared of the side effects really makes you not cheat and I like that.
Two of my friends that are on it have saw oil in their stool once (but it was by no means leaking or explosive, just droplets in the toilet when they went to the bathroom) They both said it was after a meal out when they did not know the fat grams in what they were eating.
We are all going on a cruise in August and hoping Alli will help us loose 10-15 lbs. so we look good in our bikinis. So far so good!

Anonymous said...

My friend has been taking alli diet pills religiously and the problem she has reported is not being able to make it to the bathroom in time (sometimes) and a little bit of oily skid marks.

Anonymous said...

my mom tkes it and i think she lost some...not sure i can never tell when someone loses more than 20 lbs unless i see a pic of them before...like those diet pill ads

Anonymous said...

If you screw up once with alli, even a little bit, and eat something you shouldn't then you'll spend the next 3 days in the bathroom. It is really hard on your system and I don't know anyone who has lost any weight on it.

With 5 kids you have enough to do without spending all of your time in the potty! Definitely pass this pill up.

Anonymous said...

I tried alli for a month (along with the diet/exercise plan) and I didn't see or feel any difference. Additionally (and this is totally disgusting, I'm really sorry!!) orange oil drips out of your bottom when you use the bathroom if you eat any fat whatsoever.
I can't say that any more delicately, sorry! I was horrified the first time it happened, but I went on line and found a blog where some one talked about that happening to them as well.
Based on my experiences, I wouldn't recommend it.

Anonymous said...

For me alli was terrible, the side effects WOW :)

Anonymous said...

The people who drop negative comments on alli do not know how to use it properly.

Alli is very effective- I have many clients who have taken it and none have had any side effects. Just keep your fat intake per meal low (under 15 grams) and you'll avoid any side effects from the drug.
As for diet I'd stick to low fat including vegetables , lean meats , like chicken and turkey, light pastas with little fat like seafood pasta (use thin noodles) and watch portion size.

Anonymous said...

I took the Xenical and had very bad luck with it. If you eat any fat, it goes through you like poo through a goose. I hated it. I cut way, way back on the fats in my diet and still had a problem. I did loose a few pounds, but the hassle was not worth it. If you take it, be prepared.

Anonymous said...

Your bowel movements look like you took the grease off the top of a pizza and dumped it in the toilet, also some of that grease can "leak" out. However, I am finding it to be very helpful. The reason you have this grease is because Alli blocks some of the fat you eat from being absorbed. Its nasty but it works! :) I also have some of the liquid Acai berry juice I got from Vitamin World. It helps give me extra energy and together they are a power punch. I have already lost almost 15 lbs. I haven't been down to my current weight in YEARS! Hope This helped!

Oh yeah, you really don't wanna drink (Alcoholic beverages) much while on them. I didn't have a black out or anything, but after I had a few my stomach didn't feel very great!!

Anonymous said...

well my friend was taking alli for id say about a week and it made her very shaky and light headed. She drank a couple of beers one night and ended up puking up blood and blacked out. it was very scary so whatever you do don't drink on the stuff

Anonymous said...

Alli works great, as long as you follow the diet. Any diet works great as long as you stick to it. If your truly serious about a diet then it may help you lose a little more weight but it's not like a diet pill. It's not going to help you feel less hungry or give you any miracle results.

I'm not totally sold on the fact that it really does help you lose more. I mean if your already dieting, your going to lose weight, so how can you tell it's helping you to lose more? It's just a lot of money to spend, but according to the FDA it won't hurt you, so good luck! I hope you do well.

Also......I have tried Alli and as long as you do follow the diet, you won't have any of the "effects". That only happens if you eat to much fat.

Anonymous said...

i had nothing but trouble with it.

Anonymous said...

Alli is what used to be the prescription medication Xenical. Personally, I couldn't stand being on them because if you eat a meal with more than 10 grams of fat (or even around there) you have explosive diarrhea and horrible cramping. Just take green tea pills instead. Alli just isn't worth it.

Anonymous said...

I have been on Alli for a month now and so far lost 13lbs. So far, so good.

It is a program that needs to be followed to the letter though to avoid any nasty treatment effects. I've been on it a month and haven't had a single side effect.

Anonymous said...

Depending on your diet, Alli may be a good choice for you. If you eat a well-balanced, low-fat diet, Alli will help you absorb less calories by blocking the fat.

If you eat a high-fat diet while taking Alli, you may experience unpleasant side effects such as an oily discharge from your rectum, flatulence, and/or diarrhea.

Overall, with a healthy diet and exercise plan, Alli can be a safe addition to a weight loss plan.

I have personally tried Alli in the past, and after getting used to the side effects, I found it to be helpful.

I hope this helps! Good luck to you!

I took Xenical for about 2 months. I lost 7 pounds, but you also have to watch your diet. Just because you take Xenical doesn't mean you should drive through McDonald's. You will get major diarrhea if you eat too much fat.

I was using xenical, about 6yrs. ago.Yes,it flushes all the fats you had intake....whenever you eat fatty foods,& when you poop, then you would see oils in it....but,it has a side effect at me...I can't sleep easily&my heart is palpitating...Though,it's really effective but i stopped using it coz a lot people said that it damages our liver....

I took Xenical about 6 or 7 years ago and it just made me gastrically sick. I basically lost weight because I was too afraid to eat anything because it made me run to the toilet every time I did. I was only on it for a week and lost about 3 kgs but I would strongly advise against it unless they have refined the product over the last few years to remove this side effect.

Orlistat definitely works. Five years ago I successfully lost 4 stone in 9 months whilst taking it. Is it a miracle drug? Of course not. It took a lot of self-discipline. I had strict instructions from my GP not to eat more than 5g of fat per meal (total fat not saturated fat). This is what I did and I only ever hade one bout of the "spaghetti bolognese" affect. I get so cheesed off with reading and hearing about people complaining of diarrhoea - basically, if you're getting diarrhoea you are eating too much fat! If I went out for a social occasion and would be eating, I would choose a relatively low fat option and miss a pill for that meal, but then get straight back onto it at the next meal time. I occasionally ate up to 7g of fat per meal, dependent on what was available if out and about, but never usually more than that. I also exercised - not excessively, just what I could manage with a family and full-time job. Unfortunately not long after losing the weight, I changed jobs and was so unhappy that I started to comfort eat and my weight increased. However, I have recently re-started Orlistat and have successfully lost 10kg in 2 months. I have no doubt that it works. I have tried to diet for 20 years and it's the only thing that as ever worked. I have read someone's comment about how you would lose weight anyway if you are eating low fat meals. This of course is true. However, how I look at it is that once you have popped that pill in your mouth and swallowed it, there is no going back. If you eat fat you'll get diarrhoea. It's a great deterrent!

I hope those taking it and reading about my experience will be reassured that they will succeed. I have not told others, apart from close family/friends, that I'm taking Orlistat as folk can be very cynical and believe it is the drug making you lose weight. This couldn't be further from the truth. It helps but the hard work has to come from you. I would certainly recommend Orlistat to anyone seriously wishing to lose weight.

Anonymous said...

All I'll say is I absolutely loved ****ting myself while going out running. Not worth it imo. I'd rather be fat and keep my dignity.

And to all the people that say that if you stick to a low fat diet you won't experience any side effects, you're full of it. I ate strictly fat free vanilla yogurt, grapefruit, granny smith apples, tazo green tea, and water for 4 months and still spent the majority of my time glued to a toilet seat.

Anonymous said...

I lost 8 lbs in 9 days with Alli. However it is not a miracle pill. You really have to work to lose the weight. I have exercised everyday and you really have to watch and count your calories and fat. If you dont you can get nasty side effects. So far i have been happy with this diet and I have had success. You cant just "try" the diet though. You have to commit to it.

Anonymous said...

I've used Xenical (Orlistat) as a Rx from my doctor. Its the same as Alli. Yes, with a sensible diet and exercise, Alli can help you get the results you want. Nothing is a better motivator than to see positive results, and help you stay honest about your diet. Exercise is important, of course.
Alli will bind with fat in what you eat and if you eat a high fat meal .... uh, well, you will learn real fast not to do that again. Oily diarreha and gas is common. It teaches you pretty fast what has too much fat.

Anonymous said...

I went to Walmart to get some the day Alli came out as OTC.I paid $50.00 and I ended up returning it back to the store because it didn't seem to have any effects.Actually it made me feel constipated. For the FDA to approve this drug, they must have took the good stuff out.I would not recommend, the clerk also gave me grief when I returned the pills

Anonymous said...

Whenever you are trying to lose weight, you should concentrate on these three things which all work together in providing a healthier and quicker weight loss goal for yourself. I have found this combination really successful in my weight loss plans. The first thing is exercising and how much you can put forth into it. The more you exercise, the more results you will see. The next thing is dieting and the calorie intake. If you exercise more, technically you could eat more? Always watch what you eat.
The last step in a good weight loss plan is always a good diet pill that can help you get to the end of the road.

Anonymous said...

I just started yesterday and no side effects yet.

Hi, so far 8 lbs in 5 weeks, you have to commit to the diet as well as remember to take the pills or it won't work. I would recommend using a pantyliner the first week to deal with the treatment effects.

I totally hated it.. I took it for a month and followed the instructions perfectly and I had the worst gas EVERY day. Not to mention that when I would go to the bathroom it looked like pizza grease. I saw a very small result. Definitely not worth buying another bottle.

I'm 50 LBS over weight and I have tried to exercise, diets and I can't lose any weight. How to I get my Doctor to prescribe me Xenical? I really like to know How do I get my Doctor...Does it has to be my general practitioner or any will do it?

Anonymous said...

GP can prescribe (or in some countries like Australia you can get OTC at the pharmacy as long as you meet the criteria).
I presume where you are this is not the case and xenical is prescription only. but your GP will follow the same criteria in determining whether its ok for you.
To be suitable you must have: (a) Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than or equal to 35 with no known co-morbidities; or. (b) BMI greater than or equal to 27-30 with 1 or more of the following co-morbidities:
(i) diabetes;
(ii) ischaemic heart disease; (iii) psychiatric conditions;
(iv) hypertension.
It will also depend whether xenical is suitable for your weight loss needs. It works by reducing up to 30% of fat from your diet, so if you are eating a low fat diet anyway, it won't do much for you-thus why some people say its doesn't 'work'. It suites people who are gaining weight for a specific reason and there may be a better option for you, like reductil, duromine or various other prescription drugs that work in different ways. I would go to a gp, describe your eating habits, any medical conditions, whether it was sudden weight gain or progressive, are you always hungry?, or even when you exercise and eat well do you still not lose weight? tell them that you are interested in trying xenical and go from there. :) if you do end up getting it -it is expensive, so shop around! - a 4 week pack is about $120-$140 (australian dollars)

Anonymous said...

i just went to my family practice doctor to ask the same thing...she prescribed it and now i'm trying to find it on an online pharmacy because it's a VERY EXPENSIVE drug and your insurance will not cover it. do you know what your BMI is? go in and talk with your doctor armed with some information you collect on your own through research (what does xenical do...that sort of thing). i don't think any other doctor would prescribe it--how many doctors do you have?! unless you go to a bariatric specialist (again, very expensive), your general doctor is going to be the one to help you. i'll cross my fingers for you!

Anonymous said...

tell your gp what your question says and ask for xenical. Although i can tell you from personal experience that they dont work.

alli works by pulling actual FAT from the food you eat. now i do have to warn you of the side effects.........Changes in your bowel function frequently occur because of the unabsorbed fat. Fatty/oily stool, oily spotting, intestinal gas with discharge, a feeling of needing to have a bowel movement right away, increased number of bowel movements, or poor bowel control may occur. These side effects may get worse if you eat more fat than you should.

i actually farted and ended up "messing" myself, so don;t eat large amounts of FATTY FOODS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Anonymous said...

I started taking alli a few of months ago and I have went down 3 pant sizes. i never had any gross side effect because i started watching what i ate. on weekends i cheat on my diet, so i don't take an alli when i know i'm going to indulge.
people who "crap" them selves are severly under estimating how much fat they are eating. i never have gotten the "oily farts" either.

Anonymous said...

I would never take it because I know someone who does. She absolutely CAN NOT eat any sort of fat in her diet or she has disastrous results. She actually carries an extra pair of pants in her car because she has, on more than one occasion, pooped her pants in public. Apparently it's an intense urge that can't be controlled. I have heard that you also have greasy gas that usually leaves marks on your underwear. I don't know if that happens to her. . . . I really don't care to ask!

I don't know if she's in the minority on the side effects but it's enough to keep me uninterested in the pill. On the up side, she does look great, she has lost weight and SHE thinks it's worth the side effects. I don't agree, but it's not my body!

Anonymous said...

I'm 21, going to be 22. I'm a very tall chunky female and I thought I would give it a whirl. The nice thing is that it DOES NOT make you feel weird like most "diet pills" All it does is block out some of the fat in your diet.

Sometimes you will have to poop out of nowhere, but it's never HORRIBLE. People say that you will have a leaky butt or that you will have constant diareah, not true. Just about an hour after you eat something that is higher in fat you will have to poo. If you eat healthy foods and no mcdonalds or pizza or chinese buffet you will rarelly even notice a difference.

Sometimes with you poo you can see "oil" in the toilet. This is fat that allie absorbed and your body didn't get to store as fat. This is good when you see it. I have used a bottle and I really liked it.

I was dieting anyway so I don't know how much weight it caused me to loose compared to if I didn't take it and I exercised but I plan on getting another bottle as soon as I can make some extra cash.

Anonymous said...

When I eat low fat meals all day, I don't have a problem either. It is when I eat all my grams of fat in one meal that I end up with problems.

I would take the lack of side effect as a good sign.

Keep in mind that everyones body is a little different. Some will have side effects even with following the diet, others won't.

Eating foods high in fat, and greasy foods will make you sick. I had no problem with alli if I ate really healthy. But I ate Fried chicken and it made me sick for hours and a lot of cramping.

I (weight 160 lbs) took the Alli Diet Pills for 2 weeks...I did notice that I was less hungry and it seems the pills were working. However, I also noticed after 2 weeks of taking them that I started to lose alot of oil and I was losing it all the time to the point of having to wear a pad....There is a side effect that your body may not take well to the pills and this could happen. You start leaking the oil (not to sound gross) instead of only releasing it when you use the restroom. My diet was very low in fat. I stopped taking them. My sister (215 lbs) started taking them at the same time and she had no problems. She is still on the Alli Pills with no problems. I really haven't notice that she's lost alot of weight...she looks the same. She's been taking them for about 3 months now.

Has anyone tried Alli and find the "missing information" in the commercials to be hilarius. They totally do not even mention that male or female will need to wear sanitary napkins with this product! People spend 50.00 usd and don't realize that the potential for embarrassment is extremely high.

Alli cause oil to seep from your rectum continuously. The instructions even suggest taking a change of clothing with you to work the first few days of using the product. The first few days that I took it I completely soaked a sanitary napkin with bright orange, stinky, grease. Yeeck!

I've taken Alli, and I did lose weight. But if I did not keep the fat content low in my diet I was prone to have accidents.

Which made me wonder, that if I just had keep a low fat diet I would have lost wait without taking Alli.

Anonymous said...

Yep I can't agree more. If you should look for your fat intake while on alli, I wonder why someone would use this diet pill in first place!?

Anonymous said...

Is it ok to take xenical and adderall at the same time?

Anonymous said...

I do not think it is good, any of these drugs is already strong enough alone, and it will be a dangerous coctail if you take them both at the same time. Please do not experiment this without asking a real doctor.

Anonymous said...

Why is the weight loss drug Xenical not used for nursing mothers if it since it is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract? I mean it does not appear in breast milk. If you take breaks from the drug during which you take supplements of fat-soluble vitamins won't that be ok? What exactly is the risk to the baby if you take it to shed weight put on during pregnancy?

Anonymous said...

Wrong!!
It is NOT known if Xenical (orlistat generally) is secreted in human milk. Therefore, for precaution principle, it should NOT be taken by nursing women.
Got it? :)

Anonymous said...

It's not known if Xenical passes into the breast milk. but this not the point, honestly, I wouldn't chance it. And you couldn't get me to take Xenical for love or money. The side effects are HIDEOUS. It's not that the drug doesn't get absorbed, it blocks fat from being absorbed. The drug has to be absorbed in your body so that it will work.

look at these side effects again:

oily spotting;
oily or fatty stools;
orange or brown colored oil in your stool;
gas with discharge, an oily discharge;
an urgent need to go to the bathroom;
an inability to control bowel movements, or;
an increased number of bowel movements.

I just want to find out if xenical diet pills are better than phentermine diet pills!
Has any one lost weight taken xenical diet pills?

Anonymous said...

Actually I have used both before, together. I was going to this doctor that prescribed them. Most doctors won't give you phentermine cuz it jacks your bloodpressure up. In a way its just like cocaine. It makes you full of energy and jittery. It makes you feel like you can run a marathon. The down side is that you will eventually crash. I had a panic attack while taking them. It made me have insomnia and I felt tired but my body was still moving. While taking both I lost about 7 pounds per week. Xenical is a pill where it absorbs all the fat in things that you eat. You will poop it out. It looks like grease in the tilet when you poop. The bad thing is that it has a mind of its own. Sometimes you may poop in your pants if you cant get to the bathroom in time. Doctors are more willing to prescribe Xenical than phentermine. However, I heared that Alli pills are just like Xenical just cheaper. Phentermine is cheap. Maybe $30 for 30 days. Xenical was $90 for 30 days. Insurance did not cover it. Hope my info helps.

I have been able to buy Xenical from an on-line doctors I just dont know if I should! Can you take xenical if your not overweight?

Anonymous said...

no it is definitely not safe to take if your not overweight!! Please don't take it. Just continue working out and take your workout to the next level if you feel that strongly about being that thin.

Anonymous said...

No you cant buy Xenical and use it unless you have a BMI of over 30.

My puppy just ate one and i am not sure what can happen. He is a 5.5 pound shitz shu. I really need help.

Anonymous said...

this is something you call a vet they are on call it's ok!if your dog at a pill he needs to see the vet now!

Anonymous said...

Make hium throw up with peroxide NOW NOW NOW...before he digests it - you can give him a couple of doses if he doesn't vomit within 10 minutes or so - but he probably will.

Take hime in the bathroom, and grab a paper towel - you want to be able to SEE that he gave it back, and take it right away so he doesnt lap it up again.

If you don't get it back in 10 minutes or so, bundle him up with a towel, and get on your way to the emergency vet - they have a pill that will make him vomit immediately, no matter what.

Anonymous said...

Does xenical really help you to lose weight?
When it says blocks a third of the fat from being digested does that also help with the weight that you already have?

Anonymous said...

No. DO NOT start down the road of diet pills as they are a life sentence. You HAVE to take them forever or you'll gain all the weight you lose - and then some - when you come off.

Besides, you'll spend the rest of your time in the loo; Xenical causes the sh*ts big time - not to menton the orange oily stuff (the fat has to go somewhere!)

I had an incident in the cereals aisle in Sainsbury's when I was taking it; there was no loo and I ended up with the sh*ts in my knickers and a massive orange stain on the seat of my jeans.

It's not pleasant - trust me on this. It didn't even aid my weight-loss; not one gramme.

Take my advice and JUST DON'T BOTHER!!! GPs don't like prescribing it in any case as it's very expensive (£35 for an 84-cap pack)

Anonymous said...

Yes, Xenical (orlistat) is one of the drugs that really does help with weight loss. It comes in 120mg caplets that should be taken 3 times a day with meals.

Anonymous said...

No, like other diet pills, it's mostly just hype. Just eat a good diet and get some exercise.

I need to lose 60 pounds. What is the best method? Has anyone lost this much weight before? Alli worked?

Anonymous said...

It's hard and not healthy but possible.
I lost 25 lbs in 1.5 month walking every morning, working in gym and taking pills.
I used phentermine. Alli is just fat blocker.

Anonymous said...

I have lost nearly 140 pounds and I have to tell you that there is no magic, quick-fix solution.

The best way, as everyone will tell you, is to exercise and eat healthily. This is the fastest way to lose the weight and make yourself fell a load healthier as well.

As regards eating - just don't eat crap - eat healthier natural (not pre-prepared) foods. Get into the habit of looking at the calorie, salt and fat content of any foods you buy. Make sure you eat a balanced diet, but you can bulk out on fresh fruit and vegetables which won't give you the shits unless you go mad.

Exercise just as much as you can manage, but push yourself, don't give up as soon as it hurts (you may want to have a check-up at the docs first, just to be safe) - this will really get the weight off fast.

It's worth the hard work - trust me. You'll feel healthier, younger and fitter and you'll look better too.

Good luck.

Anonymous said...

You should be able to lose 50% more than you would have not using Alli.
That's what the company claims anyway

Anonymous said...

I was going to buy it until I heard about the leakage problem it was causing. I heard on the news that it isn't worth the money. If you were to lose 15 pounds, 10 pounds was because of you working out and eating healthy, 5 pounds because of Alli. Pooping my pants isn't worth 5 pounds! I would rather just workout a little harder.

Anonymous said...

Results vary. As long as your BMI is at an acceptable level, just keep it that way. But if you still feel bad about it, just target your problem area

My sister lost 5 pounds in a week, and she was watching what she ate very carefully...she was doing moderate exercise too. Alli worked wonders for her.

Anonymous said...

I have camp in a little over two weeks and I wanted to possibly lose 12 pounds by then. Is that possible? I'm taking Alli, limiting my food intake to 1500 calories a day, staying away from carbs, and running 4 miles a day. If you're taking or have taken Alli, I would love to hear about your results (:

Anonymous said...

i started Alli about 6 days ago and have lost about 10 lbs so far! iv watched my diet carefully but haven't exercised much yet. good luck!

Anonymous said...

I started taking it 2 weeks ago and have lost 8 pounds. I had no side effects, and I didn't stick to the low fat plan completely. I did for the first week, but the 2nd week I ate pretty bad and didn't take it at every meal. I think with what you're doing you could probably lose 12 pounds.

Anonymous said...

Can you take Alli diet pills while on weight watchers? I was just wondering before I go out and buy the pills if its possible to do weight watchers and take the alli diet pill? I know you have to watch what you eat while taking the pills that's why I figured taking them while on the weight watchers program would be good but does anyone know for sure?

Anonymous said...

I don't see why you couldn't. In fact I was thinking about doing the same thing. I have been doing weight watchers for a couple of months and have lost 23.5 lbs. I read someone did WW and Alli and lost 65 lbs in three months. I would say give it a try and if the side affects are too bad just stick with WW. Good luck!

From Orlistat (alli & Xenical) side effects above review:
The most common side effect of orlistat is changes in bowel movement (BM) habits. This generally occurs during the first weeks of treatment; however, it may continue throughout your use of orlistat. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

* oily spotting on underwear or on clothing
* gas with oily spotting
* urgent need to have a bowel movement
* loose stools
* oily or fatty stools
* increased number of bowel movements
* difficulty controlling bowel movements
* pain or discomfort in the rectum (bottom)
* stomach pain
* irregular menstrual periods
* headache
* anxiety

Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

* hives
* rash
* itching
* difficulty breathing or swallowing
* severe or continuous abdominal pain

SO irregular menstrual periods is a possible side effect of alli and Xenical

I did try the free sample of ALLI for 2 weeks and I can say that it did work for me, actually I lost about 7lbs during that time. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it gave me diarrhea for the first couple of days until I limited my fat intake then everything was fine. Alli helped me a lot.
Good luck for you too ;)

I've seen reviews online...lots of reviews, including this full alli review above...about alli. Supposedly it helps you lose weight, but I guess it also makes your poop oily? Is this true? {and also, I know the only "true" way to lose weight is "diet n exersise" so please do not leave me anything explaining that! I just want to know what the side affects of alli have experience really !!!

Anonymous said...

there is no "good weight loss pill"

Anonymous said...

To the one who said "there is no weight loss pill"
This pill is actually regulated by the FDA and has been around for years before as a higher dose RX medication.

Yes Alli diet pill works..It works very very slowly, and you have to watch what you eat because the oily loose stools are a reality.
somedays you will wish you owned a diaper...

however,, if you eat properly..it works..

Anonymous said...

I am trying to loose some baby weight that I've put on (about 45-50lbs) and I've been really good at watching what I eat and I DO exercise. I have a GREAT quarterly walking/jogging regime I do and it makes me feel great, however, at times there is that extra "stuff" that takes forever to come off - I'm thinking of venturing towards Alli but I wanted to see the reviews of those of you have have taken it, whether good OR bad...thanks for you advice.

Anonymous said...

You really have to watch what you eat when you take Alli. If you get a craving for BK or MCy D's DON'T TAKE IT up to 24 hours before eating our you will be having greasy orange diarrhea. I know that sounds disgusting, but it's true! Just watch what you eat and stay away from greasy food and it works great!

Anonymous said...

I've been taking alli for about a month. They recommend you don't go over 15 grams of fat in any given meal that you take it with. I am very careful not to eat much over that if I take an Alli. If I know I'm eating a high fat meal I skip it. Alli helps keep you honest about your fat consumption, I went too far over the 15 grams of fat twice and had anal leakage, won't be doing that again.

Anonymous said...

I used Alli. I think it could work, but I just didn't have the drive to constantly eat healthy - I wasn't ready yet I guess. I still have the pills.

With Alli you REALLY have to watch how much fat you eat, because you will get oil coming out in your stool. It will coat the whole toilet bowl with it. Quite nasty. Also, if you eat too much fat you can have soft stool or diarhea - but I never did.

I think it would work if you faithfully stuck to it. You don't want to take more than three a day.

Anonymous said...

im currently taking Alli now. and i can tell you that i was scared of the "treatment affects" but really havent noticed anything different except its a bite more easy to use the rest room.lol. just dont go over the 15 grams of fat each meal and you will be fine! and make sure you stay at your 1800 calorie mark. its really helpful

trying to loose 37lbs and would like to loose it fast. my neighbor is trying to sell me the Alli pills but i thought i should read reviews on this product first. the reviews i have came across not so good, but my neighbors sister in law used them and she lost a lot of weight. just don't know what the time frame was on her weight loss. I have been on-line now for a couple of hrs trying to find a highly recommended diet pill and then re-typing it to see their reviews im just so confused i don't know which to try.
Does the diet pill "Alli" really work? if not which diet pill is highly recommended?
Please help!

I heard alot other products like acui, alli, akawar and other things but don't know which one is better and safer? The person who suggested vitapack told me it's gonna work but it has too much calcum and other vitamins and would make u more hungry. is that right? I really need to lose 25 lb and unfortunately i don't access to any gym and I'm so busy with 2smal children. unfortunately there's not any review on this product

Here how I did do on my die, Please review it.
2 -Oranges-80 calories each
1 -Bowl of vegetable soup-Unknown calorie content
5 -Cans of tuna (each can 120 calories each)
5 -tablespoons of low fat mayo (40 calories a tablespoon)
1 -Large Banana (121 calories)

I took Alli(Xenical, Orilstat), which removed 25% of the fat from the tuna salad. Also I know thats a lot of tuna but I was "starving".

I also did 45 minutes on the elliptical! 550 calories burned!

Thank You! =)

Anonymous said...

Well, you already said that you know that 5 cans of tuna is a lot. Really eating anything in abundance isn't good for you, but you know that. Next time just try to drink a large glass of water before you start eating when you are "starving." It will take the edge off the hunger. The only bad thing about the tuna and the soup is the sodium content in packaged foods. Just make sure you are drinking enough water to maintain proper hydration.

Other than that, it seems like you are eating healthy. Just make sure you are eating at least 1500 calories in one day or you will end up doing more harm than good.

I have been on Alli for a little over a month and lost 13lbs so far with no side effects.
It is a program though that needs to be followed to the letter to avoid those nasty side effects.

alli is garbage. my boyfriend works at GNC and he says everybody who buys it returns it because basically it makes you run to the bathroom every 5 minutes. honestly, you shouldn't be taking diet pills. you should be doing good old fashioned exercise and eating healthy.

loosing weight always takes a while, and Alli Pills wont help you much unless you eat healthy and work out.

Anonymous said...

I used Alli and quit because the side effects were just so ******* gross.
well, the pills only block fat. you will still absorb carbs and proteins, all that stuff, just not the fat. if you're on a low-to-no-fat diet, you might not have any of the side effects. My suggestion to you is just to eat less and exercise more. let the pills do their job, but know that unless you're on a high fat diet, they wont work on their own.

Anonymous said...

I just checked out the website because I was curious about Alli as well. Its sort of funny though it can aide weight loss but they still mention diet and exercise...

Anonymous said...

I used Alli for a while and I always had bad stomach cramps from it. Something that really worked for me was the Acai Berry though. I lost 44 lbs in 90 days.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone tried the alli diet pill? What are the side effects?
I went on the website but it was a little vague about the "treatment effects". I was wondering how bad they are and if you stick to the plan will you still experience some of them? And if you did take alli did it help? And please, no lectures about healthy eating. If I could stick to a healthy eating plan I wouldn't be on here asking about alli! I've tried dieting many times but seem to have no will power right now. I need something that will keep me on the straight and narrow!

What would happen if you took the diet pill Alli while weighing less than recommended? I am interested in taking the diet pill, Alli, however, I weigh less than the minimum weight listed on their weight chart. I am 5'2, 130lbs, but the minimum weight is 147lbs. Would it be alright for me to take this pill and if not, what could happen?

Anonymous said...

Last night, I was super tired. Before going to bed, I popped in a pill in my mouth (I thought it was Centrum) and realized that I had just swallowed a 4th Alli capsule! After realizing the mistake, I went on with the Centrum and fell asleep. What happens if you take more than 3 capsules of alli in a day?

Anonymous said...

Well as long as you don't feel sick you should probably be fine. Recommended dosages are there to prevent accidental severe injury or death since different people's bodies overdose at different levels. The number for the suggestive serving size while dealing with anything are for the weakest-average immunity rate towards anything you're taking. So taking one extra pill of a product will probably not kill you(as long as you're not a very sickly person). But I'd strongly recommend not making it a normal habit.

Anonymous said...

What will happen if I use Alli if I am under the weight category?
I am 5'3 and weigh 140.

On the website it says,"To see if alli capsules are right for you, find your height on the chart to the right. You should only start a weight loss program with alli if your weight is the same or more than the weight shown for your height." For my height, the weight is 152.

I don't see what could possibly happen if I still used this besides just losing the weight I need to lose.

What do you think?

Anonymous said...

I think you just wont loose weight. Thats what happened to me, it only works for people overweight

Anonymous said...

They impose those restrictions for a reason. There can be serious health risks. Ask the pharmacist if you are unsure.

How to avoid Alli side effects?

Try and keep stick to a fat content of less than 10% on everything you eat.

i was prescribed orlistat xenical by my gp as i had lost alot of weight on my own but seemed to be stuck at the same weight, they were fantastic and helped massively!!! would recommend them to other people in same situation, it is slower than other tablets claim to be but when it comes off the right way it stays off!! side effects eg oily stools and wind are all down to how much fat you take on over what your supposed to

im losing weight but very, very slowly... lucky if i loose more than 1lb a week... and i am getting quite fed up now with alli side effects and its slow effect!

I want to take Alli, but I'm super nervous about those gross alli side effects, like pooping some if you eat too much grams of fat. If I take it; I want to completely avoid those side effects, mostly because I go out a lot so I don't want that to happen AT ALL. So could anyone please tell me the good amount of grams to eat each day to stay away from that, and a good meal plan for the day?

Anonymous said...

I'd say meals with at most 10% fat content would make you avoid those unpleasant alli side effects.

Alli is a fantastic diet pill, people are too negative about alli side effects but in my personal experience with alli, they're quite manageable taking one alli pill 3 times a day with food.
I've seen a huge difference in myself and have nothing but good things to say about it.
good luck with alli diet pill

I've noticed that no has mentioned how Alli can help keep unregular people regular. Yes I have done the HIGH fiber alot of water thing with NO effect. I have had constipation problems since childhood. Alli has helped me to go easily with out strain and keeps me regular. I guess the undigested fat helps lube up the intestines. I dont take the 3 pills a day. I just make sure to eat something with more than 15g of fat and by next day I am able to go like normal people do. Yes I have had bad poo side effects but that was my bad for eatting a Big Mac. You live and learn but Alli really does help for people with constipation problems.

since you cant workout it may take you longer to lose the weight. but its still possible.

just eat healthier, dont drink calories, drink a lot of water.

have healthy snacks.

dont starve or stuff yourself.

Alli - Anyone else disappointed?
I eat a healthy low fat diet anyway, but decided to splurge on a two week supply of Alli, hoping it would boost my weight loss. It made no difference! I already eat low fat, 25% reduction of the small amount of fat I normally eat probably accounts to very little!

I felt like I had to eat more fat to get my money's worth from the stuff! Surely that's not healthy!

So I won't be wasting my money again.

Maybe if you normally eat a fattier diet than me, it may be great (but then you would have the nasty side effects, rather antisocial!)

Has anyone else been similarly disappointed?

I'm using Xenical, so I know what you are talking about.

Yes, I think it doesn't do a lot if you already eat a low fat diet. Perhaps just stick to eating 3 proper meals per day without snacking in between to lose weight? I get it on prescription and still use it because of this, but if I had to pay for it I would certainly stop using it.
